Culinary Breeding Network X Log House Plants

In a fun collaboration with our friends at Log House Plants, we’ve curated a special collection of plant varieties selected for flavor, beauty, and compelling background stories, all chosen because they are exceptional to grow and eat.

Explore the Culinary Breeding Network Collection on the Log House Plants site to learn more about each variety and why it’s meaningful to us. Log House Plants doesn’t sell directly to consumers, but their website lists retailers where you can find these outstanding plant starts near you. Or, if you prefer, you can grow many of these varieties from seed on your own!

What’s in the Collection

Gusto Italiano Project

This collection comes from a collaboration between CBN, Uprising Seeds, and northern Italian breeders at Smarties.bio. It includes certified organic radicchio and regional specialty Brassica seeds bred and grown in Italy’s radicchio heartland.

Featured varieties include:

  • Broccolo Fiolaro di Creazzo

  • ‘Verza Moretta di Veronella’ cabbage

  • ‘Broccolo di Bassano’ cauliflower

  • ‘Medusa’ puntarelle

Multiple radicchio types like Rosato, Vesuvio, Regina Ross, Pasqualino, Mirabella, and Delta

Eye Candy

These are CBN’s top picks for winter gardens—plants that add vibrant color to the gray season outside and on the plate. Their deep purple hues come from anthocyanins, pigments that are not only beautiful but also beneficial for human health.

Selections include:

  • Mendocino’ purple sprouting broccoli

  • ‘Purple Cape’ cauliflower

  • ‘Purple Peacock’ broccoli

  • ‘Redarling’ Brussels Sprouts

Suitcase Seeds

These are varieties found abroad that made their way to the US (sometimes by way of a suitcase).

Selections include:

  • Beans like Pescia, Cicerchia, and Black Sicilian Garbanzo (Italy)

  • ‘Shimoda’ eggplant  (Japan)

  • ‘Pinky’ tomato (Japan)

  • Blue Fenugreek (Italy)

  • Shungiku greens (Japan)

Chef’s Favorites

Standout varieties chosen with input from chefs and culinary friends for performance and flavor in the kitchen.

Selections include:

  • White Queen’ cutting celery

  • Stocky Red Roaster’ pepper

  • Black Futsu’ and ‘Tetsukabuto’ winter squash

  • Hungarian Landrace’ parsley

  • Simone’ kale

Explore the Culinary Breeding Network Collection and discover plants that connect flavor, culture, heritage, and growing excellence. Whether you’re planting starts from a local retailer or sowing seed yourself, these are varieties we’re proud to celebrate and share.
